The Sagesse community unfolds a history marked by role model citizens who inspire generations with their hard work and dedication as their means to success. They seize opportunities and overlook challenges to reach their aims. Their determination to realize their ambitions drives them to carry out their successful missions. This community has become a dogma, a haven for diversity, individuality, ethical values, educational growth, and responsibility, and it is flourishing worldwide.
The core of the Mary Mother of Wisdom/Sagesse Foundation, presided by Sagesse Alumnus-Engineer Joseph Karaki, rises from the mission of a school in the center of Beirut which has set its scope to be the roots of human development over the years. Founded by the Archdiocese of Beirut, Sagesse is a cultural meeting point that has been educating generations to become empathetic citizens for the past 140 years. Amidst the recurrent wars against, and within, the nation between the 1970s and the 1990s, Sagesse defied the norms and started schools in critical neighborhoods to carry out its mission to educate children from various religious and political backgrounds around the district. It has patented an inspiration of wisdom among citizens all over the country, at the core of which education is a means that brings together the people who were meant to be separated by conflict and war.
Among the Sagesse community which includes six Francophone Sagesse schools and a university, Sagesse High School is a leading Catholic Anglophone school, accredited by MSA, the IB, and recently by the World Academy of Sports. The school offers its students the International Baccalaureate Programme, the American Program, and the Official Lebanese Baccalaureate Program. To meet its students’ needs, Sagesse High School also offers inclusive and exclusive special education for students with learning difficulties. The school invests in extracurricular activities such as the SHS/Model United Nations and Active Citizen Projects to promote its students as confident and responsible citizens internationally, through their active participation in, and hosting of, Model United Nations Conferences and other ACP projects across the school. At another level, the Physical Education Department at SHS promotes skills and team building through the basketball, football, and swimming academies, which have reaped national and international championships. The school’s journey over the past twenty-five years unfolds ongoing curricular and extracurricular development and growth from which a well-rounded community is flourishing.
Today, we mark our place in history again with another milestone and a new achievement, the launching of Mary Mother of Wisdom/Sagesse Foundation, a platform created for Lebanese expatriates, Sagesse alumni to fund the education of Sagesse students in Lebanon. This indicates the maturity we have reached with the support of the Maronite Archdiocese of Beirut and the MMW/SF organization to serve the Lebanese community worldwide. The funds raised by Lebanese expatriates in the US are the stepping stone to support Sagesse students eagerly seeking global education. Between then and now, it is education and cultural growth that remains a constant in the Sagesse equation. It opened up horizons of opportunities its students fail to keep to themselves because they “operate in an environment that instigates empathy and compassion” within a loyal and balanced community. This is a community that bustles with unlimited potential, ambition, inspiration, and determination to make a difference in this world.
